Two Worrying Reports

Sluggish pace in development projects
Highlights pollution among concerning subjects.
Dhaka tops the cities very polluted
Causing its copybook severely blotted.

Two reports on air and sound did tremendous damage to Bangladesh reputation. Particularly at a moment when Bangladesh is witnessing infrastructure boom.

Swiss company IQAir found in its report that Bangladeshi air is most polluted (76.9 micrograms of nefarious particles per cubic meter) in the world.Harmful substances in the air of Bangladesh surpasse WHO set threshold ( 5 micrograms per cubic meter). Clearly a concern that requires serious attention. Dhaka is ranked second after Delhi among the most air-polluted cities¹.

However, Dhaka tops the list of most noisiest cities in the world.United Nations Environment Program in a report claims that, in 2021, it recorded 119 decibels noise intensity in Dhaka.Much higher than WHO standard(55 decibels for residential area and 70 decibels for traffic and business area)².

The rising pollution has a price.Dhaka is paying it heavily.More and more Dhaka dwellers fall victims of Dhaka's falling air quality. Directorate General Of Health Services (DGHS) that keeps a tab on outbreak of asthma,pneumonia, diarrhea etc has noticed a sharp rise in the number of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) patients in recent years. According to a Dhaka Tribune report,in 2015-16,there were 18,791 new patients of ARI. In 2018-19, the number rose to 20,446 new cases. And in 2019-20,it reached 111,737³.

Not only the air.Dhaka's water also gets polluted.Last month Dhaka has witnessed an unusual outbreak of diarrhea that has never been seen in 60 years. In ICDDRB hospital, more than 1000 patients admitted to hospital daily in the month of March. Earlier, on average 500 patients were admitted.In the Summer when temperature shoots to around 40° Celsius, aggravation of diarrhea is a common feature. ICDDRB doctors point to polluted water and roadside food taking behavior for the recent bout of diarrhea⁴.

The three crucial news reports may seem unrelated. Land,air and water of Dhaka get polluted because of the unplanned development works and urbanization.As more and more people flocked to the capital city that has flood proof embankment in search of opportunity, Dhaka is becoming unlivable and a nightmare. Pollution causes more patients,more spending on health expenditure, loss of working hours and less participation in economic activities. Since my childhood, I have been suffering from bronchitis. I have to spend minimum TK 160 on medication every month. Those suffer from kidney dysfunction have to spend more than TK 5000 on medication and treatments. Many of the ingredients to make medicine and medical services are subsidized. This gives an idea how national wealth and resources are taking a toll due to pollution.

Those doing the development works have little concern to public health and future generation. As Dhaka offers the best services of the country, parents thought it is the best place to groom their future generation. And many kids are growing up with dysfunctional lungs, hearing loss and other complications. Not all loss can be recuperated. Lost adolescence, youth cannot be brought back. Lack of sanitary precautions, unhealthy living and lack of foresight in conceiving development projects are contributing to undermine our own future.Pity that these words fall into deaf ears. I hope I maybe wrong.

Selon un reportage, il y a une épidémie de diarrhée au Bangladesh. Dans l' hôpital spécialisé, plus de 1000 patients ont été hôpitalisés chaque jour. Personne n'est morte jusqu’au 25 mars.

Selon un reportage, la société informatique suisse IQAIR est classé Bangladesh le pays le plus pollué dans le monde en 2021. Dhaka est devenu 2ème parmi les villes où l’air est assez polluée.

Selon un reportage, 3 membres de Mogh Liberation Party ont été tués par balles à Rangamati.

(02 avril --- 09 avril)

Selon un reportage, la propagation de Covid-19 est devenue pire. Plus de 7.000 cas de Covid-19 ont été détectés chaque jour. Le jeudi 74 morts ont été enregistrées, le plus dans un jour. Le Center for Disease & Prevention des États-Unis a élevé le niveau de la propagation de Bangladesh à la 4ème position et a prévenu les Américains de voyager le pays. Une enquête conjointe, faite par icddr,b et le bureau de la santé, a divulgué que le variant sud-africain a ciblé de plus en plus de gens au Bangladesh.

Selon un reportage, une bande de gens inconnus ont attaqué les maisons et bureaux de conseiller et fonctionnaire de Saltha à Faridpur. Quand des policiers et une fonctionnaire avaient tenté d' imposer mesures de confinement, une bagarre a rendu violente. 30 personnes ont été blessées et 1 a été tuée.

Selon un reportage, le gouvernement a déployé mitrailleurs avec mitrailleuses dans 18 gendarmerie à Sylhet où installations publiques et gendarmeries ont été ciblées pendant manifestations d' un groupe fanatique.

Selon un reportage, un bateau a été chaviré dans un fleuve de Narayanganj après avoir percuté par un bateau-citerne. 34 personnes ont été mortes dans l'accident.

Selon un reportage, Dengue s’est declaré dans tout le pays. Il y a 1016 victimes identifiés dans la première semaine de juillet. Le pays témoigne le plus de victmes en juin dans les dernières 4 années. Dans son étude ICDDR,B, le pesticide a échoué à tuer le moustique pour provoquer Dengue.

Selon un reportage, glissement de terrain a tué 4 personnes à Chattogram. Pluie incessante a inondé toute la ville.

Selon un reportage, un train a percuté un camion qui a bloqué son chemin à Gazipur, en tuant 2 personnes.

Selon un reportage, la mairie de Dhaka nord a annulé la décision d'interdire rickshaw dans les rues principales de Dhaka. La mairie de Dhaka sud n'a pas envie de changer sa décision.

Selon un reportage, des chercheurs de l'université de Dhaka a trouvé ingrédient antibiotique dans les produits laitiers fabriqués par les sociétés bangladaises.

Selon un reportage, les pluies torrentielles posent risque d'inonder tout le pays.Plusieurs fleuves ont franchi le seuil de danger.

Selon un reportage, un home massacré trois personnes à Cumilla. Il était en colère avec sa femme. Les villageois l’ont battu sévèrement , provoquant sa mort.

Selon un reportage, l’ancien chef de l’ONU, le président des Îles Marshall , la reine de l’Hollonde , et chef de la Banque mondiale sont venus au Bangladesh dans visite officielle.
